No league markets competitive balance like the NFL: it's their core marketing message. However, after ten games during the current schedule, this isn’t a league that is equally balanced separating contenders, pretenders, and middle-of-the-pack clubs. Rather, we see a situation where the bulk of franchises are merely fine.

NFC Standings Definition

Looking at the NFC side, at least, we see clearer definition. The Rams along with the Seahawks (both at 7-2) seem like the most balanced franchises across the league, and delivered decisive victories during Sunday's action. Philadelphia at 6-2 despite their struggles maintain one of the most talented rosters in the league, comparable to Green Bay (five wins, two losses, one tie). Even the Lions (6-3), who have been inconsistent along both lines of scrimmage and have been dealing with coaching drama, have proven they're capable of dominating good teams. AFC Playoff Chaos

Over in the AFC, the playoff picture is a jumbled mess. Your four division leaders after ten games: Indianapolis, New England, Denver (each with 8-2 records) and Steelers (5-4 record). Read that again. Not the Chiefs. Not the Bills. Neither Ravens nor Bengals. The usual contenders, supported by the league’s best quarterbacks, have either significant personnel gaps or are dealing with health issues.

League Equality Design

In some ways, this represents the NFL's perfect scenario. But watching this season's top AFC teams within the conference continues to seem unusual. Components of every squad suggest title potential, though not comprehensively. Team Breakdowns

Indianapolis Colts

First, examining Indianapolis, Daniel Jones hasn't descended to total collapse. However, recent performances have raised concerns. He's reverting to committing turnovers and failing against blitzes. He took seven sacks facing Atlanta in the weekend game, and had a brief period where he delivered an interception and lost three fumbles. This is a week after he committed turnovers five separate times versus Pittsburgh.

Except for losing due to fumbles a manageable matchup facing Pittsburgh, they'd possess at 9–1 as the league's best. In the prior year, they seemed veteran and plodding. Currently they're inexperienced, speedy and bold. Still, it’s hard to ignore the weakness of New England's opponents. They have faced the easiest slate in the league, and flaws have still emerged. The signal-caller has been brought down thirty-five times – ranking second league-wide – including particular impacts he absorbed on Sunday were vicious. With continued play, that punishment compounds.

Denver Analysis

The Broncos hold eight wins similarly, and it still feels that they're barely surviving. This development isn't entirely shocking that the Ravens have narrowed within a game of the Steelers, but how rapidly this occurred represents criticism toward Pittsburgh's fluctuating form. That the Ravens started the season 1-5 and currently seem likely to claim the title reveals much about the complete conference.

Traditional Powers

The Ravens' form part among three elite teams – alongside the Bills and Chiefs – driven by elite quarterback play, who could still create the most fear for opponents if they made the playoffs. They’re the No One Wants To See ‘Em teams, yet Kansas City and Buffalo cannot get out of their own way.

Bills Struggles

Previously, the Bills felt confident after beating the Chiefs. During Sunday's action they experienced among the season's worst defeats during the campaign. They didn't merely fall against Miami; they looked terrible, losing 30-13 as visitors. This represented Miami's initial victory versus Buffalo in several seasons.
