The people of Israel commemorate second anniversary of October 7th incident as Palestinian ceasefire negotiations advance
Israelis have gathered throughout the country to remember 24 months since the Hamas-initiated offensive on 7 October 2023, as talks proceeded in Egypt over an end to the conflict in the Gaza Strip.
The attack saw over 1,200 people dead and 251 others captured away to Gaza as captives. It was the uniquely deadliest day for Jews since the Second World War.
Israel answered by launching a defensive operation in Gaza which has taken in excess of 67,000 people, based on figures from the territory's Hamas-run health ministry. Its figures are seen as accurate by the UN and other world agencies.
"Our violent adversaries have hit us hard, but they have not overcome us," the leader remarked on Tuesday.
He also promised to "accomplish all the goals of the war: the release of all the abducted, the removal of the Hamas administration and the assurance that Gaza will never again pose a risk to Israel".
Commemorative Gatherings Across Israel
The government authorities postponed state memorials until 16 October - after the completion of the religious holiday season - but events still occurred throughout the country on that day.
A remembrance service for the relatives of people killed in the Hamas attack was held in Tel Aviv. Organized by the affected families, it was televised across Israeli broadcast stations.

Citizen Reaction
In the city's Hostages Square earlier, 29-year-old Hagar - whose brother endured the assault on the outdoor event, where hundreds were killed and dozens more were captured by Hamas fighters - explained: "No location appears as home anymore and until each abducted person come back not a single person will feel safe."
"Once we see everybody home once more, we can feel relief anew. Then we can commence recover," she concluded.
In front of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's home in the capital, people congregated to express their solidarity for the loved ones of the hostages. Israel reports forty-eight stay in detention in Gaza, twenty of whom are considered to be alive.
Demonstrator a participant explained: "It's necessary do every compromise necessary for the hostages to be released. But we really want guarantees that we will be protected."
Research now consistently show that about 70% of Israeli citizens desire the hostilities to finish in as payment for the liberation of the abducted.
Palestinian Conditions
At the site of the music event, those paying respects assembled to pay their respects.
